A celebration of the legendary silent movie actress Mabel Normand

FATTY AND MABEL ADRIFT (1916, 30 mins.)

Fatty and wife Mabel, together with dog Luke, spend their honeymoon at cottage on the seashore. Fatty’s rival Al St. John and his buddies set the cottage adrift at high tide, while the couple is asleep. They awaken surrounded by water with the cottage afloat.

THE EXTRA GIRL (1923, 72 mins.)

When Sue (Normand) arrives in Hollywood to sign her movie contract, she finds out, it was a case of mistaken identity, and ends up working in the props department of the studio. However, her parents wanting to remedy the situation, come to Hollywood and invest money with a questionable individual.

Yasmin Merei

Yasmin Merei is a Syrian journalist, linguist and human rights activist. As a journalist she has written for several newspapers and was the co-editor of the Syrian magazines Al Haqiqa and Suwar. Merei is managing editor of Sayyidat Suria. She is a founding member of the Syrian Women's Lobby, a member of the Civic and Democratic Action Society, Syria and associate director of the Campaign Against Childhood Marriage.

She will be staying at Villa Aurora until the end of December 2015. On July 30th Yasmin will talk about her work for the Syrian feminist magazine Saiedet Souria. For more information please visit: http://saiedetsouria.com

Nuria Núñez Hierro

Nuria Núñez Hierro studied piano and composition at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Córdoba and graduated with honors from a composition master class taught by Elena Mendoza and Iris ter Schiphorst at the Berlin University of Arts (UdK). In addition, Núñez Hierro was awarded scholarships from the Andalusian Government the German Academic Exchange Service and the "La Caixa" Foundation. In 2014, she is a fellow at the UdK Graduate School for the Arts in Berlin.

Her works have been performed by prestigious contemporary music ensembles such as Ensemble Intercontemporain (FR), Ensemble Ascolta (DE), Studio New Music Ensemble of Moscow (RU), OrbisTrio (CZ), Trio Transmitter (DE), Taller Sonoro (ES) and Liminar Ensemble (MX).

At Villa Aurora, Nuria Núñez Hierro will study interrelations of musical and theatrical elements in performance productions with a special emphasis on works intended for young audiences. Nuria will show some excerpts of her project "Bestiarium" on July 30th. "Bestiarium" is a theatrical project for all ages with a plot that develops like a walk through sounds. Roman Ehrlich

Roman Ehrlich, born 1983 in Bavaria, now living in Berlin published the novel "Das kalte Jahr" and a collection of short stories called "Urwaldgäste" in 2013 and 2014.

During his stay at Villa Aurora, he is working on a new novel, a stageplay and, in collaboration with German photographer Michael Disqué, on a Photo/Textbook on the Afghan NATO-Camp Marmal, which they had visited in May. Sasha Waltz

Sasha Waltz was born in Karlsruhe, Germany. She studied dance and choreography in Amsterdam and New York. In 1993 she co-founded her company, Sasha Waltz & Guests, with Jochen Sandig in Berlin.

Sasha Waltz will give an insight into her artistic pathway as choreographer and director of the Berlin based dance company Sasha Waltz & Guests. She has been creating work in Europe and touring with her company in North and South America, Asia, Australia and extensively in almost all European countries and Russia. For the last 10 years her focus was on creating choreographic opera, trying to rethink the term of "Gesamtkunstwerk" with dance and the moving body as a center of investigation. Her musical exploration ranges from baroque music to romantic repertoire to the turn of the century modern music until contemporary compositions. She has collaborated with major contemporary composers like Wolfgang Rihm and leading conductors like Daniel Barenboim and Staatskapelle, Sir Simon Rattle and Berlin Philharmonics, Valery Gergiev, Donald Runnicles, Pablo Heras-Casado and James Conlon.

Apart from her musical explorations she has widened the field of dance into a dialogue with other disciplines like visual arts and architecture. She has especially developed site-specific performances in museums like the Jewish Museum (Daniel Libeskind) and Neues Museum Berlin (David Chipperfield) and MAXXI Rome (Zaha Hadid).

On July 30 she will explain her creative process accompanied by video excerpts.
