Connect the Dots

"Connect the Dots emerged from my time at Villa Aurora in Los Angeles in 2019. During my stay, I witnessed the wildfires in Pacific Palisades up close, as they reached the neighborhood surrounding the villa. This experience left a lasting impression on me. With this work, I want to thank the firefighters whose courage and dedication protect lives and cultural sites such as Villa Aurora and the Thomas Mann House. Since my arrival in Los Angeles, I have also been captivated by the visual presence of fire trucks and firefighters—powerful symbols of strength, community, and constant readiness. Connect the Dots brings these impressions together, creating an image that intertwines natural disaster, human commitment, and personal memory.”

About the Artist

Lukas Glinkowski is a visual artist living in Berlin. His work reflects urban (sub)culture. In addition to classic painting on canvas, Lukas Glinkowski uses industrial materials for his objects and sculptures: tiles, windows, mirrors, photo wallpaper, and neon tubes. His works have been shown in international exhibitions, including at the Kunstmuseum Bonn, the Deichtorhallen Hamburg, and in Berlin, Copenhagen, Lisbon, and Vienna.

From October to December 2019, Lukas Glinkowski was a fellow at Villa Aurora in Los Angeles.

About the Project

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Villa Aurora in Los Angeles, the artist residency has invited former fellows to design large-scale posters as individual artistic contributions to Berlin’s urban landscape. Displayed across diverse public locations in the city, the works forge a connection between art, urban society, and international perspectives.

Art in the City reflects the rich diversity of both Berlin and Los Angeles. The artworks draw on the unique character of specific neighborhoods, building symbolic and aesthetic bridges between urban life in Berlin and the Californian metropolis, while also engaging with pressing social and political issues.

The project seeks to make art more accessible to a wider audience and to strengthen the visibility of the cultural scene. Art in the City offers an inviting and unpretentious glimpse into the vibrancy and international relevance of Berlin’s arts landscape: Art for everyone – art in the city.

From May 12 to 25, works by six artists will be on view throughout Berlin. A second edition is planned for October.
