Saâdane Afif

Visual Art
  • Saadane Afif © Anri Sala

Saâdane Afif was born in 1970 in Vendôme and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Bourges and Nantes. Described as "post-conceptual," Saâdane Afif’s work is characterized by exceptional versatility. Through an interdisciplinary, process-oriented approach, he creates installations, sculptures, posters, concerts, records, and theatrical productions.
Since 2004, an integral aspect of his practice has been inviting authors to lyrically interpret his works, in order to explore the processes of translation and interpretation that are inherent to any encounter with a work of art—since, as Marcel Duchamp noted, "it is the viewer who makes the work of art."
