Fellows&Friends @ Sticks & Stones
Sticks & Stones
Babette Marie Werner, a member of Villa Aurora and executive assistant at the Friends of the National Gallery, gave our Fellows&Friends a tour of the Glass Hall at the new National Gallery in early December. Werner explained that the impressive installation STICKS & STONES—comprising 140 debarked spruce trees, each about eight meters tall, which British architect David Chipperfield installed there for a period of three months—is an exploration of the architecture of the Neue Nationalgalerie. STICKS & STONES also serves as a prologue to the upcoming renovation of the building, for which David Chipperfield is also responsible. “For me, these last few weeks are also a farewell to the Mies building,” says Babette Marie Werner, feeling a little heavy-hearted as she considers the expected four-year renovation period.
The exhibition will run through the end of December.
