Art on Common Ground - Festival OSTEN Tour

How do images change when viewed from a different perspective? What traces do periods of social transformation leave on public space? And how might history be revisited through the lens of the present? In their work, artists Viktoria Binschtok, Sonya Schönberger, and Luise Schröder engage with questions of place, memory, and society.
As part of Kunst für das Land, Villa Aurora & Thomas Mann House and the OSTEN festival invite the public to a guided tour of the grounds of the Zschornewitz power plant on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. The three artists will present works created specifically for the project and offer insights into their research, exploring social change and the diverse perspectives that shape our understanding of “the East.”
The tour will be led by Clara Becker, curator of Kunst für das Land, and Martin Naundorf, co-director of the OSTEN festival. The program will also feature a conversation between Luise Schröder and Sandy Bieneck, director of the women’s center “Frauen helfen Frauen e.V.” in Bitterfeld-Wolfen.
About the Artworks
On the grounds of the Festival OSTEN at the Zschornewitz Power Plant, the art posters by Viktoria Binschtok, Sonya Schönberger and Luise Schröder will be exhibited. In addition to the locations on the festival grounds, the poster artworks are also exhibited throughout the city of Bitterfeld-Wolfen.

With rainbow, Viktoria Binschtok transfers a viral social media experiment into the landscape along Lutz-Born-Straße, making a shift in perspective the central motif of the work. In her poster artwork motif, Luise Schröder engages with the independent women's and lesbian movement of the 1980s and 1990s in the GDR. The poster's location is in the immediate vicinity of the women's center "Frauen helfen Frauen e. V." Art on Common Ground on the Move... More Editions
Art on Common Ground aims to highlight the value of art and culture in times of social upheaval.
Following two successful editions featuring large-format art posters in Berlin and Halle (Saale), “Art for the Country” is now making its way to Bitterfeld-Wolfen, Zschornewitz, and Cottbus. The project will be gradually expanded to other cities and states, with the goal of spreading artistic inspiration widely across the country and reaching as many people as possible.
