Set against the backdrop of the large-scale residential areas in Wolfen—parts of which were dismantled after 1990—this photographic work focuses on the traces remaining in the urban space and along its pathways. Footprints preserved in the concrete slabs become testaments to a vanished neighborhood and a changing urban landscape. Captured through the lens, they appear like archaeological finds, silent relics of everyday life that speak of memory, appropriation, and the inscribed histories of a place.

The title of the work refers to the shoe soles that left these impressions in the concrete. The "Banner des Friedens" shoe factory (VEB Kombinat Schuhe Weißenfels) was considered one of the most prominent manufacturers of footwear in the GDR.

Sonya Schönberger lives and works as an artist in Berlin. At the heart of her multimedia practice—which encompasses video, installation, and sculpture—are biographical ruptures in the wake of political and social upheavals. Her work is rooted in personal conversations, historical research, and engagement with both her own and existing archives. In 2018, she initiated the "Berliner Zimmer" (Berlin Room), a video archive projected to span 100 years, which documents and preserves the life stories of people in Berlin.

From April to May 2022, Sonya Schönberger was a Villa Aurora fellow of the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion, Berlin.
