Tina Born, born in 1963 in Frankfurt am Main, is a versatile German artist based in Berlin. After a formative period in Sydney, she studied fine arts at the Berlin University of the Arts from 1988 to 1996 under Dieter Appelt and Christiane Möbus, graduating as a master student. Her diverse artistic practice encompasses sculpture, printmaking, drawing, conceptual and textile art, as well as site-specific installations.

At the heart of Born’s work are places, forms, and structures imbued with ambiguity. She frequently reconstructs or transforms existing objects, altering scale and material to liberate them from their original context. Her focus is less on simulation than on intensification and resonance, provoking afterimages and inner associations in the viewer. Research, quotation, and history are central to her approach, as is an ongoing engagement with architecture, urban transformation, and the relationship between nature and the city.

Born is a founding member of the artist collective “Stadt im Regal” and has participated in numerous international exhibitions and projects. Her work has been shown in Germany, France, Spain, Indonesia, the United States, and Namibia. In addition to her artistic practice, she has taught at the University of Cologne, the Bauhaus University Weimar, and the University of Europe for Applied Sciences in Berlin.

Tina Born’s oeuvre is distinguished by poetic complexity and a subtle exploration of space, memory, and perception.
