Tin Tin Win
Feuchtwanger FellowTin Tin Win, born in 1958 in Yenangyaung, Myanmar, began writing short stories while studying medicine in Mandalay. After completing her degree, she devoted herself fully to literature, quickly rising to become one of Myanmar’s most prominent and influential authors. Over the course of her career, she has published 21 collections of short stories and novels, many of which have become bestsellers; five of her works have been successfully adapted for film.
In 1991, Tin Tin Win moved to the then-capital, Yangon, and in 1994 founded her own publishing house to independently release her novels. Her writing is noted for its candid exploration of the changing role of women in Burmese society—a focus that has made her both one of the country’s most discussed and, at times, controversial literary voices.
Beyond her literary achievements, Tin Tin Win is deeply committed to social causes. She co-founded an orphanage for HIV-positive children and is an active member of both the HIV/AIDS Media Initiative and the Yadana Metta Foundation. Through her writing and advocacy, Tin Tin Win has become a vital voice for social and cultural change in Myanmar.
