Tilman Peschel
Visual ArtTilman Peschel is a German artist whose primarily photographic work explores fundamental questions of cultural, psychological, and social patterns and structures. His images are meticulously conceived and staged, yet always engage with the documentary qualities and phenomenological characteristics unique to photography. Peschel’s process often begins with specific materials and found objects, constructed sculptures, and performative interventions in his surroundings.
During his Villa Aurora fellowship, Peschel created the artist’s book Showtime, which humorously subverts the trivial iconography of Hollywood through playful self-portraits and staged scenes.
Peschel’s work has been exhibited in solo and group shows both in Germany and internationally, including at Aando Fine Art, Berlin (2012); the 7th International Biennial of Photography and Visual Arts, Liège, Belgium (2010); ZKM, Karlsruhe (2008); Galerie Kunstagenten, Berlin (2007); Gana Art Center, Seoul (2006); Deichtorhallen Hamburg (2005); Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Taiwan (2003); and Ars Electronica, Linz, Austria (2002).
