Rui Calçada Bastos

Rui Calçada Bastos was born in 1971 in Lisbon. He lives and works in Berlin. After having lived in Macao (South China) for ten years, Calçada Bastos went back to Portugal to study painting and sculpture. In 2002 he was a resident artist at the Cité International des Arts in Paris. Thanks to a fellowship awarded by the Senatsverwaltung für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kultur he moved to Berlin in 2005, where he also founded, together with the artists Sergio Belinchon, Paul Ekaitz, Santiago Ydanez and António Mesones, the artist-run space Invaliden 1.
