Author Katharina Winkler grew up in upper Austria and now lives in Berlin. In 2016 she published her debut novel Blauschmuck by Suhrkamp, which is based entirely on a true story. The best-selling novel tells the story of the Kurdish woman Filiz and her abusive husband, and her long struggle to freedom.
