Karin Geiger, born in 1966 in Dortmund, is an acclaimed German photographic artist based in Neuss. She studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Magdalena Jetelová from 1989 to 1995, and completed her master’s degree at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, where she worked with Jeff Wall and Roy Arden. Since 2007, she has maintained her studio in the Neuss harbor district.

Geiger is known for her precise yet sensitive photographic works that capture everyday situations and spaces with a distinctive, often documentary aesthetic. Her practice centers on people in their environments, subtly exploring relationships between individuals and the spaces they inhabit. Geiger’s images balance authenticity and careful composition, inviting viewers to reflect on the interplay between figure and setting.

Her work has been recognized with numerous awards and fellowships, including the Villa Aurora Fellowship in Los Angeles, the NRW Artist Grant, the GWK Förderpreis Münster, and residencies at Akademie Schloss Solitude and Künstlerdorf Schöppingen. Geiger’s photographs have been exhibited internationally, with shows at venues such as Martin-Gropius-Bau Berlin, Kunsthalle Hamburg, Fotomuseum Winterthur, Or Gallery Vancouver, and Galerie VOX Montreal.

Karin Geiger’s oeuvre is regarded as a significant contribution to contemporary German photography, offering a nuanced visual record of both everyday life and the evolving urban landscape of Neuss.
