Thomas Mann Fellows 2027
by Redakteur
We are pleased to announce the newly selected Thomas Mann Fellows. During their residencies—which will span several months—the fellows will work on projects centered on the annual theme, "The Power of Narratives", while engaging with American cultural figures, scholars, and the general public.
The program will explore, among other topics, how cultural, social, political, and economic narratives—shaped by new media and technological developments—influence our identity, society, and democracy, and how contemporary, inclusive forms of storytelling can help shape a shared future.
The following fourteen individuals have been nominated by the Thomas Mann House’s independent advisory board for residencies in 2027:
journalist Volkan Ağar, writer Nora Bossong, political scientist Saba-Nur Cheema, author Samira El Ouassil, economist Marcel Fratzscher, founder and executive board member Nora Sophie Griefahn, literary scholar Esther Heller, editor Thomas Jahn, founder and executive board member Tim Janßen, media scholar Evelyn Kreutzer, publicist and educator Meron Mendel, journalist and author Jana Petersen, Mission Lead Tiaji Sio, and legal scholar Dan Wielsch.
The fellows for 2027 were selected by the Thomas Mann House’s independent advisory board, which includes: Veronika Fuechtner (literary scholar, Dartmouth College), Alice Hasters (author and former Thomas Mann Fellow), David Kim (Professor of European Languages and Transcultural Studies, University of California, Los Angeles), Esra Küçük (board member of the Postcode Foundation), Georg Mascolo (journalist and publicist), Michaela Muylkens (member of the board of the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation), Bernhard Pörksen (media scholar and former Thomas Mann Fellow), and Bernhard Schölkopf (computer scientist and former Thomas Mann Honorary Fellow).
