July 8. to August 6. I Berlin Fellow Rosha Yagmai I Waxworks

Rosha Yaghmai

In the sculptor’s first exhibition at Galerie Weiss Berlin, Yaghmai’s ongoing, intensive exploration of materials, production processes, forms, and colors becomes evident, an exploration rooted in the tradition of American sculpture, particularly modern Californian sculpture. The new body of work includes, among other things, objects made of silicone, fiberglass, limestone, and found objects, all of which appear luminous, some transparent and others opaque.

The precise, colored panels cast in silicone appear impenetrable, solid, and heavy. Each panel contains a type of connecting element, such as a hose for water pipes, diving equipment, or showers, or a cable. They resemble fossilized relics from times long past: their permeability, once the most important feature of their functionality, is permanently blocked.

Rosha Yaghmai lives in Los Angeles and was the second Berlin fellow at Villa Aurora at Weiss Berlin.
