Archive as Resistance: Fireside Conversation with Rebecca Racine Ramershoven & Special Guests

Join us for an inspiring fireside conversation with Villa Aurora Fellow Rebecca Racine Ramershoven, a multidisciplinary artist exploring displacement, belonging, and the ties between America and Germany.

Rebecca will be joined by Dominique Clayton, Curator & Founder of Dominique Gallery, and Evan Nicole Brown, independent writer, producer, and Managing Editor of Contemporary Art Review Los Angeles (CARLA). Together, they’ll dive into how Black histories shape identity, community, and creative practice, and how art can be a tool for resistance, memory, and connection across borders.

Moderated by DCDG Co-Founder, Delaney George.

Don’t miss this rare chance to engage in meaningful dialogue around culture, preservation and history with leading voices in contemporary art!

Participants

Rebecca Racine Ramershoven

Rebecca Racine Ramershoven is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Cologne and Thessaloniki, working across photography, video, sound, and objects. Her practice powerfully explores race, representation, and the political and historical forces that shape our lives. As a Villa Aurora Fellow in residence at 18th Street Arts Center, Rebecca is uncovering stories of Black resilience in Los Angeles—from land reclamation movements of the 1920s to today’s community-led resistance to displacement. Her work weaves history, joy, and collective memory into bold visual narratives that reimagine what liberation can look like.

Dominique Clayton

Dominique Clayton is a Los Angeles–born arts consultant, writer, and gallerist, and the founder of Dominique Gallery, a platform championing emerging and marginalized artists—especially artists raising families. She is also the curator behind the major exhibition Giving You the Best That I Got (October 11, 2025 – March 7, 2026), presented with the California African American Museum, celebrating the powerful, underdocumented narratives of Black motherhood through work by leading contemporary artists.

Dominique serves on the curatorial and programming committee for Destination Crenshaw and has held key roles at The Broad and Jeffrey Deitch Gallery. Her writing has appeared in Cultured, LALA Magazine, Artsy, Sugarcane, Blavity, and in her forthcoming project, Black Arts Diary.

Evan Nicole Brown

Evan Brown is a writer, editor, and event producer based in Los Angeles, and the Managing Editor of Contemporary Art Review Los Angeles (CARLA)—the city’s leading free print magazine dedicated to inclusive, accessible perspectives on contemporary art. Her work helps shape the cultural dialogue across 120+ galleries, museums, and institutions throughout L.A.

Before joining CARLA, Evan was a culture writer at The Hollywood Reporter, covering art, entertainment, and the people shaping Los Angeles. She has also reported for The New York Times, Architectural Digest, Cultured, The Cut, TIME, and more.

Evan is also the founder of GROUP CHAT, a conversation and creative mixer series in L.A.
