Konzert: Remembering The Exiles

Adam Milstein is a violinist who is developing a multifaceted career as a performer, lecturer,  music curator, and recording artist. He is pursuing his Doctorate of Musical Arts at UCLA with a focus on lesser known composers of the 20th Century. He received his Master of Music and Artist Diploma at the Colburn School. He received his Bachelor of Musical Arts from the University of Michigan in Violin Performance with additional studies in Art History.

Millstein is the Program Director of Music Restored. He spearheaded the 2020 Schulhoff and More! Project: an online series focused on the life and music of Music Restored composer Erwin Schulhoff. He curated, performed, and organized filmed recordings of Schulhoff’s music which resulted in the critically acclaimed album Shapeshifter: Music of Erwin Schulhoff on the Delos Label. In 2025, Millstein produced a new production of Viktor Ullmann's Opera Der Kaiser von Atlantis for the Louisville Orchestra.

Millstein works extensively with renowned conductor Maestro James Conlon. Millstein has frequently performed and recorded music by composers such as Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Mieczysław Weinberg, and Franz Schreker. He recently recorded Weinberg's Concertino for Violin and String Orchestra as soloist with James Conlon and musicians of the Colburn School.

Barbara von Bechtholsheim is a cultural historian and author. Her recent research
focuses on immigrant artists of the 20th century with a particular interest in the
acculturation and its impact on their creative process. Hugo Kauder is one of these
artists in exile whose work she is exploring. Also, she has written about creative
couples; in these studies, she explores the divide between biographical study and

Dominic Cheli is a pianist, educator, composer, and business leader known as an "artist-citizen." Praised as an "inspired keyboardist" whose playing is "spontaneous yet perfect," he made his Walt Disney Concert Hall debut with the Colburn Orchestra and his Carnegie Hall recital debut in 2019. His discography includes a Naxos recording of Liszt/Schubert transcriptions, hailed as "utterly brilliant," and a Delos album of Schulhoff's music featuring his collaboration with Maestro James Conlon. He also composed, edited, and performed for the 2021 documentary Defying Gravity. A St. Louis native, Cheli has appeared with orchestras including the San Diego, Indianapolis, and Virginia Symphonies, at festivals such as Ravinia and Mostly Mozart, and was named 1st prize winner of the 2017 Concert Artists Guild Competition. He now serves as Director of Business Development and Head of Piano at tonebase, an online education platform for classical musicians, shaping strategic growth and producing masterclasses and livestreams for over 25,000 subscribers. A member of the Darshan Trio, he also performs with Street Symphony in Los Angeles's Skid Row. Cheli holds degrees from the Manhattan School of Music, Yale University, and the Colburn School, and is a Yamaha Artist and Colburn Community Music School faculty member. Outside music, he trains for Ironman triathlons.
