Two Sound Spaces - Two Anniversaries

Sound Installations in the Prenzlauer Berg Water Reservoirs

July 11-13, 2025

30 Jahre Villa Aurora

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Villa Aurora and in remembrance of the 10th anniversary of the passing of musician and composer Dieter Moebius, the large and small water reservoirs in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg will transform for three days into extraordinary sound spaces for experimental electronic music.

In the Großer Wasserspeicher (Large Reservoir), Felix Kubin and Josephin Böttger will present the site-specific installation Plasmatron with audiovisual live performances that integrate the reservoir’s concentric architecture and acoustics as essential components of the work.

Simultaneously, the Kleiner Wasserspeicher (Small Reservoir) will host the European premiere of Moebius Strips, an audio installation curated by Tim Story. This project is a musical homage to electronic music pioneer Dieter Moebius, featuring works by ten international artists – including Geoff Barrow (Portishead), Sarah Davachi, Jean-Benoît Dunckel (Air), Felix Kubin, Hans-Joachim Roedelius, and Michael Rother. The installation will also include a new composition by sound artist Hanna Hartman, a Villa Aurora fellow in 2010.

Both installations invite visitors to move freely through the spaces, experiencing the diverse sonic worlds in an individual way. They offer new perspectives on the origins and development of electronic music – between Berlin and the USA, between Krautrock, minimalism, techno, and sound art – and celebrate the power of artistic collaboration across generations and borders.
