Director RP Kahl was a Fellow of Villa Aurora in 2013. During this time he began his work on the feature film A THOUGHT OF ECSTACY, which is coming to German cinemas these days. We met him in Berlin for a chat. In the interview he talks about the genesis of the film, his time at Villa Aurora and his collaboration with Monkeytown Records and the photographer Markus Hirner.

Synopsis von A THOUGHT OF ECSTASY

»I strolled through the graves, touched by the variety of memories. One was dark bleck marble, the other one nothing but a small metal plate on a post. And one was the memory of a Frank. I imagined it was him.«

August 2019. Frank recognizes his own story of twenty years ago in a recently published book. He remembers Marie, with whom he had a relationship before she moved to the United States and disappeared from his life. Frank sets out in search of her and finds himself in a USA petrified by a heat wave and lost in suspicion and political paranoia. He heads into the desert in pursuit of Marie.
