Nele Wohlatz was born in Hanover and studied scenography, philosophy and film at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design. In her films, she playfully explores connections between language and film language, possibilities of transnationality and the border between fiction and documentary film.

Her graduation film "Schneeränder" (2009) was awarded the Young Talent Prize of the Duisburg Film Week. The co-directtion of "Ricardo Bär" (2013) once again won the Young Talent Award of the Duisburger Filmwoche as well as a special mention at the FIDMarseille.

Nele Wohlatz' feature film debut "El futuro perfecto" (2016) won the Golden Leopard for the best debut film in Locarno, the jury prize of the AFI Fest Los Angeles, the Sichtwechsel Filmpreis of the Hamburger Filmfest as well as many other awards. The film has had screenings in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and the US and has been shown at over 70 festivals, including Rotterdam, Viennale, New Directors/New Films and Mar del Plata.

During her stay at Villa Aurora, Nele Wohlatz will develop a film project.
