Thomas Köner studied electronic music at the CEM-Studio in Arnhem from 1985-1990. From 1987-1992, he studied at the Konservatorium Dortmund. In 1990, he produced his first album Nunatak Gongamur. Köner worked at the RuhrSound Studios in Dortmund from 1992-1994. He co-founded the project Kontakt der Jünglinge with Asmus Tietchens, which has produced several albums and EPs since 2001.

Köner frequently combines visual and auditory experiences in his works. Since 1995, he has been working as a freelance artist in the fields of sound, installations, film, music, video, theater and radio art.
