Tilo Schulz grew up in Leipzig in the German Democratic Republic and today lives and works in Berlin. He had the chance to personally experience the workings of both political systems, which fed into his later work on conflicted identities, and the problems of German reunification.

During his stay at Villa Aurora, Tilo Schulz will work on a project about the 'Hollywood Ten', a group of people who refused to answer questions during the hearings of the House of Un-American Activities Committee in 1947.
