Grew up in Berlin (East), studied film and television studies at the HFF Babelsberg (1982-86), dramaturgy assistant/dramaturge at the DEFA feature film studio (1986-90), founder of  the weekly newspaper "Der Anzeiger" (1990) and editor at the weekly newspaper of the GDR citizens' movement "Die Andere" (1990-92). Since 2002, professor of practical dramaturgy and head of the script/dramaturgy course at the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf. Teaching and lecturing at home and abroad (Babelsberg Film University, Humboldt University Berlin, Academy of Media Arts in Cologne, Drehbuchforum Vienna, Lucerne University of Art and Design, Dresden University of Fine Arts, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Film Association, Ludwigsburg Film Academy, Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Friedrich Ebert Foundation, WGIK Moscow, Albanian Film Association in Tirana, German Embassy in Montenegro / Podgorica, HFF Munich, Hamburg Media School, Wits University Johannesburg, Mumbai Film Festival, International Literature Festival Durban, California State University, UCLA, USC Los Angeles, Goethe Institute/Centers: Belgrade, Johannesburg, Sao Paulo, Maputo, Cape Town, Los Angeles, et al. a.). In addition, editor (anthologies) as well as dramaturgical collaboration and consulting for various film projects.

Writer in residence in Los Angeles (Villa Aurora), Belgrade (Literary Tandem), Johannesburg (Goethe Institut).
