Events | Über Rechte schreiben? – Wie kann Literatur dem Populismus begegnen?

Frankfurt | May 15, 2020 | 7:30 pm

"In times like these..." - This is how demands for more political engagement in an increasingly populist public are often starting these days. In this context, literature is often given the role of an empathy machine, which is supposed to mediate between diverging perspectives and world views. But doesn't this postulate of empathy aesthetically bind authors to a program that leaves no more room for ambiguity and incomprehensibility? Will the followers of populism in this way maybe receive even more
attention than they actually deserve? Shouldn't literature precisely counter the resentment of the Right with a resolute "No!"? In addressing these questions, the panel discussion will address a re-emerging debate on politically engaged literature.
