Marc Rothemund began his career as a production manager and assistant to his father the film director Sigi Rothemund, as well as for other filmmakers such as Bernd Eichinger, Helmut Dietl, Dominik Graf and Gérard Corbiau. His first films as a director were made for television. His first feature film was The Strange Behavior of Mature City Dwellers during the Mating Season (1998). His breakthrough came in 2005 with the film Sophie Scholl - The Final Days, which was awarded the Silver Bear for Best Director at the Berlinale, as well as the Bernhard-Wicki Filmpreis. The film was also nominated in 2006 for an “Oscar” in the category “Best Foreign Film.”
